Anthropic Launches Claude Duet to Target Professional Workflows

The new agent distinguishes itself from personal assistants by focusing on business automation, dashboard creation, and background task management for small enterprises.

The landscape of artificial intelligence is rapidly expanding with new productivity tools entering the market weekly. Against this backdrop, Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a new application designed to compete with established players like Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, and Grok Bot.

The company positions Duet specifically for professionals and small businesses, aiming to automate complex workflows rather than serve as a general-purpose personal assistant. Anthropic explicitly differentiates the product from consumer-focused agents like Instinct, noting that Duet is not optimized for handling personal errands or booking travel tickets. Furthermore, the agent does not provide a live visual feed of its browser activity, a feature found in some rival products.

Instead, Duet focuses on generating daily briefings, constructing data dashboards, and suggesting strategic actions based on user inputs. The agent operates within its own virtual environment, allowing it to complete tasks in the background while the user continues other work. It will only interrupt the user when specific approval is required for the next step.

This launch coincides with a broader industry shift from simple chatbots to autonomous agents that can execute work on behalf of users. While competitors like Meta and OpenAI have integrated business features into their existing platforms, Anthropic is targeting this segment with a dedicated tool. Duet is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model and integrates with more than 6,000 connectors and plugins available in the Claude Marketplace.

The agent also supports financial transactions, capable of making online purchases through Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, Anthropic states that sensitive actions, including payments, require explicit user confirmation. Duet is not designed to trade securities or transfer funds between bank accounts, maintaining a clear boundary on its financial autonomy.

To address privacy concerns, the company released a new classifier that scans each message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, Duet will decline requests that ask users to input credit card numbers or government identification details. This security layer is intended to build trust among business users sharing proprietary data.

Claude Duet is currently available as a research preview for Pro and Max customers on iOS, Android, and via the Claude.ai web platform. Access is limited to those who join the waitlist, as Anthropic rolls out the service to a broader audience.
